Back to Wisconsin

Posted on Wednesday April 30, 2014 at 10:00pm in

It feels strange to put Wisconsin in the “travel” category, but I guess it’s been about four months since I went back! We had Good Friday off at work, so I thought I would also take Monday off and fly back to Wisconsin for Easter weekend. I flew out very early on Friday morning and then back at night on Monday, so I had a full four day weekend in Wisconsin.

I was a bit surprised to see everything still all frozen in Minnesota when I flew in. My dad picked me up at the airport and we drove the rest of the way to Eau Claire, after stopping for a salad at a bagel shop. I was really tired when I got back, so I had a short nap when I got home. Then, Mom came home and we all went out to dinner at Grizzly’s.

In the evening I went out with some friends on my old downtown circuit. We went to the Firehouse and The Stones Throw. I also received a perfect gin and tonic.

On Saturday, I checked out a local souvenir shop that I didn’t even know existed. It was called The Local Shop and it’s run by Volume One magazine. Mike told me about it. It was a really cool shop. I found a lot of awesome, locally made stuff. I took some pictures of some stuff that I didn’t end up getting, but would have liked to. I did end up with some cool Eau Claire drinking glasses and a Wisconsin shaped cookie cutter, though.

Back to WisconsinI was really tempted to get this, but it wasn’t quite worth $10 to me

Saturday night, Bryan put together an awesome #reDrewnion party for me. Actually, it started at like 3pm. We got the party going by drinking a lot of Spotted Cow (only in Wisconsin beer).

Back to Wisconsin“not alcohol” – getting ready to go out

I was wearing my heavy Wisconsin jacket the whole time, but actually the weather in Eau Claire was a lot better than my first morning in Minneapolis lead me to believe it would be.

We went to Shanghai for dinner and then later on went out to Water St for a Point at the Joynt. We also had to hit up El Patio. It was a fun night, and it ended with me falling asleep on Bryan’s couch pretty early.

Sunday was Easter and we went back to Minneapolis to celebrate with family. By the end of my trip, I had been in Minneapolis three times in four days. Easter dinners were good as usual, and it was nice to see everyone. We had dinner at Aunt Debbie and Peter’s house this time, because Grandpa wasn’t feeling well.

On Monday, I didn’t do a whole lot. I went to have lunch at Mogies with Bryan, Seadog, Katie, Nate, and Alex. I also went on a long walk with Seymour and Bryan after that. For the rest of the day, I took another nap and mostly got things ready to go back to the airport. We left kind of early from Eau Claire so that we could stop and have some dinner before I took off for Dallas again.

It was a great trip back, but way too short! I was excited to get back to Texas, but I feel sad that I didn’t get to see everyone that I wanted to in Wisconsin. Four days is too short and I was overbooked. Hopefully next time I’ll get to see some more people. My mom has been asking me to come up for her birthday party in June, so maybe I will do that.
