JLPT Again, Chicago

Posted on Monday December 06, 2010 at 10:06pm in ,

Because I didn’t pass the JLPT last year, I decided to take it again this year. Again, I had to travel to Chicago to take the test. Dad took me on Saturday afternoon and we stopped at a hotel about 20 minutes outside of Chicago. We knew pretty much what to do this time so it went a little smoother than last year. In the morning we got up and headed into Chicago.

The first thing I wanted to do before going to take the test was see Millennium Park. I wanted to go see it last year but we didn’t have time, so it’s a good thing we got to go back. Millennium Park was really cool!

This was the main attraction, the thing I wanted to see. It’s a sculpture called Cloud Gate. Made in 2004, it is constructed completely out of stainless steel plates and then heavily polished so there are no visible seams.

After having seen Millennium Park, it was time to go take the test. To prepare for this years’ test, I learned 300 new kanji, read a book in Japanese (走れメロス), and translated some Japanese songs into English. I was surprised at how much I had improved from last year. Many of the kanji I studied appeared on the test and I didn’t have to guess much. I understood all of the articles in the reading section, and finished all of the sections early. I think the test went very well! It looks like this year will be a pass, but I guess I shouldn’t celebrate too early. I won’t get the results until February.
