Melvin Goes To Dinner

It’s been a while since I’ve written about a movie. It’s not that I haven’t been watching movies, it’s just that it’s been a long time since I’ve found one that I felt like writing about. I was sitting at my computer this evening and it was getting late. I felt like watching a movie, but not one that was too long. I pulled up my list of movies that I had made a note to watch, but hadn’t gotten to it yet and started looking at the lengths. I came across one that was an hour and twenty-three minutes… perfect. Melvin Goes To Dinner.

Melvin Goes To Dinner

I knew almost nothing about this movie when I started it. I found it online on a forum named “What’s your favorite movie that no one else knows about?” Melvin certainly isn’t a very well known movie. In fact, I had never heard of it until I came across it in that online forum. That being said, this movie is quite a hidden gem.

The plot is very simple. Four people who don’t know each other very well happen into a dinner together. They quickly warm up to each other and start with simple conversations about the monotony of every-day life and sharing a little about themselves. The conversations span many topics including sex, religion, infidelity, fetishes, and ghosts. They share quirky and interesting stories about their lives. While none of them know each other particularly well, they start to feel like confessing aspects of their lives that they aren’t proud of. As more stories are told, they start to realize that maybe they aren’t strangers after all. The conversations all feel very natural and it makes the experience very enjoyable.

This was a very interesting movie. It even had a great (but short) cameo with Jack Black. There were a few other cameos which I found out after looking up the movie, none of which I noticed though. I recommend this movie to all my readers. I think anyone would find this movie interesting. Even knowing nothing about this movie going in, I found it very compelling and wanted to see more and more. When the movie ended I still wanted to see what happened next.

Again, I highly recommend this one. You should be able to find this at any video rental store.
