I have the day off until 4:30, so I decided to do an update. Here’s what’s new…
On Monday, I met up with my family and Sumiyoshi and took them down to Dejima Wharf. We walked along the pier and headed down towards Glover Gardens. We went looking for a cake shop they wanted to see that had been in operation since the 1600s. We found it, they bought some cake, and we also made it down to Chinatown. We walked around looking at temples and bridges.
We made our way to Meganebashi, a famous bridge.
Found a stork. Or maybe it’s a crane.
This drawing shows a map of the bridges and their names.
Carp swimming in the river.
We went back to Cocowalk and I showed them where they could try udon. We bought tickets to see a movie in the new theatre. While we were doing that, Grandma went shopping. We saw Transformers 2 (Mariel and I had never seen the first one, but we figured it was irrelevant).
The movie was way too long, nearly 3 hours. It was basically just watching things transform and then fight for a long time. It was okay… Not really my thing, I guess.
After the movie, we went back to the Nishi’s for Nozomi’s birthday party.
On the left is Kiyoko. On the right from the back to the front: Setsuko-san, Yuuna, Nozomi.
Nozomi’s happy birthday cake. He is now 9 years old.
On Tuesday morning, Grandma, Mariel, and Aunt Kathleen left Nagasaki for Kyoto. Kiyoko helped them get to the right train and it sounds like they got their okay. It was a lot of fun having them in Nagasaki, but it was pretty short.
In other news, Pepsi just put out their summer release the other day:
Pepsi Shiso. It’s minty…not very good. Better than Pepsi Ice Cucumber, though.
Yesterday I went to the mall with Asami. We went shopping for a bit and I got this really great notebook…
Japanese notebook. Very stylish.
After shopping, we went to Dejima harbor at night. It’s very pretty at night, I think I posted some pictures from my old camera a while ago. But, these turned out a bit better:

This morning, my old host mom came by and surprised me with a gift. She bought me a blue jinbei. This is a picture of the box, I haven’t taken it out yet. It’ll be great for wearing at a summer festival, or maybe for the Fourth of July.
